Greetings, I am Prashant Dhavan, welcome to United Nations News. This month, Pakistan has repeatedly used the phrase "a new India" in the United Nations General Assembly, stating that this new India is dangerous and a threat to the region. Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Munir Akram, has also claimed that India is carrying out targeted killings in Pakistan, Canada, and the US, and that India is operating in the same manner in several other countries.
In this video, you will see how Pakistan is raising this issue in the UN. As a first-person perspective, I want to inform you that Pakistan is set to become a temporary member of the UN Security Council in August 2021, and this will be a significant concern for India. This is because Pakistan is likely to use similar language in the UN Security Council, which will be a matter of concern for India.
In the past, India has been accused of state-sponsored terrorism by Pakistan, and India has made similar allegations against Pakistan. However, India has always maintained that it is not involved in any terrorist activities and that any non-state actors carrying out attacks in Pakistan are doing so independently.
The new India that Pakistan is referring to is considered dangerous by Pakistan's representatives. In a statement to the UN, Pakistan's Ambassador said, "You can say that we are powerful, we are not afraid of anyone." Pakistan wants to destroy India's reputation in the UN and sees the UN Security Council as a platform to achieve this.
It is important to note that the UN Security Council has 15 members, five of whom are permanent and have veto power. These five countries are China, France, Russia, the UK, and the US. The remaining ten members are non-permanent and are elected for a two-year term. Currently, Japan, Malta, Mexico, Mozambique, and Ireland are non-permanent members. Other countries such as South Korea, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Equatorial Guinea will be elected as non-permanent members soon.
Pakistan has been trying to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the last ten years but has not been successful. However, Pakistan is making efforts to become a member in the 2025-26 term, and it has the support of several Asian countries, including China. Pakistan has a good chance of becoming a non-permanent member, as it has received support from several countries in the region.
If Pakistan becomes a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, it will focus on the issue of Kashmir and other issues related to India. Pakistan has been raising the issue of Kashmir in the UN General Assembly for many years, even when it was not a member. However, if Pakistan becomes a member of the UN Security Council, it will have more influence and can create more problems for India.
In conclusion, Pakistan becoming a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council is a matter of concern for India. Pakistan has been trying to become a member for many years and has the support of several countries in the region. If Pakistan becomes a member, it will focus on the issue of Kashmir and other issues related to India. India will need to counter Pakistan's narrative and maintain its position in the international community.
