I've been thinking about leaving YouTube lately. After seven years of creating content, I feel like I've said everything I needed to say. The idea of repeatedly making the same videos for years on end doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather move on to new things once I've accomplished what I set out to do.
Recently, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by the YouTube channel, "Silicon Valley Girl," where I discussed my decision to take a break from YouTube and my thoughts on the platform. During the interview, I also shared some insights into my experience managing multiple YouTube channels with over 3 million combined subscribers, and the secrets to making money on the platform.
One piece of advice I have for aspiring creators is to not reinvent the wheel. Look at what's already working for others and modify it to suit your own style and audience. Consistency is also key, but it's more important to focus on quality over quantity.
In terms of my current endeavors, I'm currently focusing on my venture fund, Road Runner, and a media company that I run with my brother. These businesses provide a source of cash flow and allow me to diversify my income, which is important for any creator. I started setting these up a few years ago, and I'm glad I did, as it can be difficult for creators to get off the "hamster wheel" of content creation when it's their only source of income.
When it comes to starting a new channel, I think about whether the channel has the potential to build equity and whether it's an area that I'm passionate about. I've found that personal brands can be hard to sell, so I wanted to build something that would be separate from myself and have the potential to be sold in the future.
I'm currently based in Pennsylvania and have been trying to slow down my travels, but I'm always on the lookout for new opportunities and investments. I'm excited about the future and the possibilities it holds.
In conclusion, my advice for anyone looking to be successful is to not reinvent the wheel and to focus on quality over quantity. And always be on the lookout for new opportunities, but make sure to diversify your income and have a plan for the future.
