I'm here to share with you 10 tips for running your first marathon, based on the advice of a seasoned runner.
Tip 1: Set comfortable goals. You're not a marathoner yet, so you don't know how your body will react to the 42 km. Don't impose time limits or records on yourself before completing your first marathon. Your goal should be to finish the race with a smile on your face.
Tip 2: Choose a scenic route. Don't choose a fast route, choose a beautiful one. You don't have to be the fastest runner, you have to enjoy the event. A beautiful marathon will help you finish with a smile on your face.
Tip 3: Run with someone. Running with someone is always better than running alone. You can share ideas, reactions, and pacing. If you can, run with a family member or friend.
Tip 4: Don't try anything new on race day. Don't wear new shoes, socks, or clothes. Stick to what you trained with. Testing something new on race day can lead to problems.
Tip 5: You will break. Everyone breaks during a marathon. It could be a small break or a big one, but it will happen. Don't get frustrated, it's normal.
Tip 6: Don't change your eating habits before the race. Stick to your normal routine. A change in diet can lead to problems during the race.
Tip 7: Don't spend too much time at the expo. The expo is exciting, but don't spend too much time on your feet. You need to rest before the race.
Tip 8: Go to bed early. Your body needs rest. Even if you can't sleep, rest is important.
Tip 9: Position yourself correctly in the starting area. Don't start in a faster corral than you should. It will only slow you and others down.
Tip 10: It will hurt. The days after the marathon will be painful. Be prepared for this and be tolerant of the pain.
Bonus tip: Enjoy the experience. This is just the first of many marathons. Don't just run one marathon to say you've done it. Run because you love it.
